Afterschool Programs K-12

WHOLE ME, Inc. provides afterschool programs for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children who communicate using American Sign Language (ASL) and/or spoken language. The programs are geared to the specific needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children in grades K – 12. Activities focus on enhancing everyday communication, literacy development both ASL and English, age-appropriate social and daily living skills, team-building and Deaf Culture awareness. Programs are designed to assist children/youths with transition, post-secondary options and eventual employment.

The professional staff of the after school program includes both Deaf and Hearing individuals who are fluent in ASL and have a thorough understanding of Deaf Culture. Our specially trained staff is equipped to provide the academic, social and emotional support necessary to meet the needs of today’s Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing youths.

WHOLE ME, Inc. also offers programs for family and community members interested in learning about Deaf Culture and American Sign Language.

The “Ladies” Club

The Ladies’ Club is a sisterhood of young Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) women which meet once a week. The club is open to young D/HH woman 18 years and older who are transitioning into the “real” world. In addition to friendship and social outings the Ladies’s Club provides education about community resources, healthy relationships, wellness, daily living skills, self-advocacy and mentoring.

The goal of the group is to educate and empower young women as they begin to make wise decision about their future.

Educational Advocacy

WHOLE ME, Inc. provides information and support for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students and families in the areas of educational planning, IDEA, rights and responsibilities, IEP meetings, etc.

Transition and Employment Services

WHOLE ME, Inc. works closely with ACCES-VR to provide transition support for students as they leave high school to enter college or the workforce and for adults who want to go back to school or obtain employment. These services include:

  • Assistance applying for ACCES-VR services
  • Assistance with SSI/SSD, Medicaid, WIC, Food Stamps, and Public Assistance
  • Assistance applying for Adult Education and GED Classes
  • Job Preparation and Training
  • American with Disabilities Advocacy & Rights Awareness

Professional Development Workshops

WHOLE ME, Inc. works closely with the Central New York Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf to provide educational workshops and continuing education opportunities for professionally certified and qualified sign language interpreters.

WHOLE ME, Inc. also provides professional development workshops for educators of the Deaf, emergency responders, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, childcare professionals, employers, etc.
