About Us

WHOLE ME, Inc. was established in 2003 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization to assist Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children, adolescents and young adults, along with their families, to access educational, social and community resources that promote success in literacy, transition and life skills, employment and socialization.

WHOLE ME, Inc. offers a unique afterschool program that is bi-lingual and bi-cultural. All programs offered by WHOLE ME, Inc. use American Sign Language (ASL) and English to communicate, and teach children the nuances of both Deaf Culture and Hearing Culture.

The children who participate in WHOLE ME, Inc. programs use a variety of communication modalities ranging from ASL to the spoken word. Not all of our participants use ASL to communicate and not all speak English. Our philosophy is to respect all forms of communication and to equip the children with all the tools necessary to become self-sufficient adults.

For Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children exposure to accessible communication can result in life changing benefits such as:

  • Increased opportunities to understand and participate in conversations going on around them
  • Increased opportunities to learn from their environment
  • Improved Individual and family communication
  • Increased self-awareness and self-advocacy skills
  • Improved age-appropriate social skills
  • Increased awareness of academic and career options

All programs and events encourage the involvement of family, friends and community members in order to provide consistent opportunities for successful communication and literacy in the following areas that represent the acronym WHOLE ME:
